Spa Life – Product Review

Spa Life is a company who has created a unique approach to the standard spa experience. They want to bring the luxury of a spa into the comfort of your own home without you having to spend hundreds of dollars. They pride themselves on extensive research and ingredients that are made to target specific benefits in every treatment they offer. I was extremely excited when Spa Life contacted me to work with them in a sponsored post. I have a love for anything that will benefit my skin and they have tons of incredible products for the eyes, lips, face, and body.

  • Coconut & Shea Butter Hydrating Facial Mask ($6 each/$18 3pk) — Shea Butter is made from the nuts of the Karite Tree that grows in the semi-arid regions of the Savannah regions of West and Central Africa. for years, women have used Shea Butter for their dry, sun-exposed skin. It contains beneficial vegetable fats that rejuvenate skin. Together with coconut, which has long been thought of as an effective light-weight moisturizer and hydrant, your skin will be soft, supple, and flake-free.
  • Goats Milk & Mediterranean Olive Oil Luminous Facial Mask ($6 each/$18 3pk) — Goats milk contains a substance called capryllic acid that helps maintain the skin’s natural pH level and is slightly acidic to prevent the overgrowth of bacteria. Capryllic acid is also easily absorbed into the skin and helps exfoliate dead skin cells helping to keep your skin smooth and hydrated.

  • Avocado & Vitamin E Face Wraps ($15 3pk) — Throughout Central and South America the avocado is highly regarded for it’s extremely nourishing properties. It was a favorite of the Mayans for it’s ability to heal and soothe irritated skin. Avocados contain healthy fats and phytonutrients which help maintain skin tone and complexion, in addition to softening dull, dry skin.
  • Wake Up Under Eye Revitalizer in Espresso & Vitamin E ($15 each) — Wake up those tired, worn eyes! The caffeine found in Espresso revitalizes and stimulates the under eye area, and Vitamin E acts as a super moisturizer. Gentle and soothing, this treatment leaves the delicate skin around your eyes feeling softer, firmer and glowing, leaving you looking youthful and well-rested.
  • Almond Milk & Honey Renewing Facial Mask ($6 each/$18 3 pk) — Almond Milk is an excellent source of Vitamin E, a known antioxidant. Antioxidants protect skin cells from damage caused by free radicals. Vitamin E acts as a shield by protecting your skin from harsh elements like sun exposure and pollutants. Honey infuses skin with moisture to keep skin looking fresh and beautiful.

Radiant Under Eye Treatment in Diamond ($25/6 treatments) — Diamonds are a girls best friend! A simple, relaxing 20 minutes can make your under eye area rejuvenated and brightened. Combined with the anti-aging ingredient collagen, your skin will be more firm. So many powerful ingredients in one will help you dazzle, sparkle, and shine.

Glow to Go Self Tanning Towelettes ($18/30 cloths) — Forget harmful tanning beds, and throw out your messy self-tanners. Get a healthy, natural glow, on the go! Golden bronze skin is now yours with just a simple wipe of a towelette. Easy and convenient, these tanning towelettes leave skin feeling soft, smooth, and glowing!

HydroSoothing Eye Pads in Cucumber ($10/6 treatments) — These eye pads are pre-moistened with real fruits and vegetables, and other natural ingredients. Specially designed to rest over the eye area, so you can sit back and relax. The cooling sensation helps to de-puff eyes and alleviate irritation.

Hydrating Collagen Lip Plumping Mask Infused with Red Wine ($25/6pk) — This lip mask is infused with natural plant collagen, pro vitamins, hyaluronic acids, rose essence and grape seed oils as well as other essential ingredients that will help restore your lips. The lip mask will gradually dissolve under body temperature and permeate quickly into the skin.

FullSizeRender (5)— This is me wearing the Avocado & Vitamin E face wrap. It is very moisturizing and felt nice on my skin. All of their masks are sheet masks/wraps — none are in cream, clay, or mud form which disappointed me a little bit. I’d have to say that my favorite products were the under eye masks, and the lip masks. The face wraps are nice, but they did not leave my skin looking much different than before. The Self-Tanning towelettes are amazing, I actually showed some color after a couple of uses, and the cucumber eye pads were totally luxurious!

Summer Vacation – Oregon & Washington

Columbia River Gorge (bridge connecting Washington to Oregon)

I apologize for the absence in posts the past week. Justin and I just got back to California from a fourth of July vacation (which was desperately needed). We spent a week in Vancouver, Washington as well as Portland, Oregon to visit some friends and family, and had so much fun.

We spent some time at the Washington Square Park Mall in Beaverton and got to shop around. A highlight being, the Tesla storefront where we got to view, sit, and learn about the newest models on the market (SO COOL). I added a new Michael Kors purse to my collection — “what’s in my purse video, coming soon!

While we were in Vancouver we spent some time by the Columbia River. They have the cutest walk-ways and paved paths that take you alongside the water with some gorgeous views. We watched a wonderful firework show at Fort Vancouver and then got to light off some of our own mortars at the house. It is so neat that the huge sky fireworks are legal there, because in California they aren’t.

One day we hiked to Multanomah Falls. The views are breathtaking, so much that this was my second time there. Of course we had to get donuts in Portland, instead of VooDoo we went to Blue Star, delicious! The weather was in the sixties and lower fifties at night. I was able to snuggle under the blankets, something that cannot be done in California in the Summer, that’s for sure!

Mt. Hood from the airplane.

Other Things We Did On Vacation:

  • — Spent the day at the Oregon Zoo (The Elephant exhibit and Polar Bear center was my favorite) !!!
  • –Ate Pizza at a random Restaurant that ended up to be the BEST I’D EVER HAD! (Pied Piper Pizza)
  • –Watched Central Intelligence at Regal Vancouver Plaza — SO FUNNY!
  • –Devoured a Reeses/Cookie Dough Blizzard from Dairy Queen… Yum.
  • –Walked the streets of Portland “keep Portland weird”!
  • –Enjoyed a lovely trail walk in Vancouver near Hazel Dell
  • –Played board games over a home cooked meal

Justin and I had a great time, and can’t wait to go back again.

Ashlan Gorse – Inside Her Dive Bag

shark week

Entertainment journalist Ashlan Gorse made a name for herself reporting on Hollywood trends and interviewing celebs for E! News, before she attended the party where she met Philippe Cousteau Jr., now her husband. Cousteau took Gorse to Bonaire to get scuba certified, and, since then, the pair has been diving happily ever after.

I remember watching her on E! News a few years ago and when I turned on The Discovery Channel this week it was nice seeing her on TV again, although in a different setting — swimming with sharks!

The Professional Association of Diving Instructors interviewed Ashlan a little while ago to talk diving and discuss some of her favorite equipment she carries in her dive bag. Here’s what she said:

Do you have a favorite wetsuit?

I have two that I love.

The W2 7mm by Waterproof is my cold water suit. It moves well for a thick suit, and has a front neck zip that is really helpful when I get too hot or too claustrophobic from the neck tightness. And the design is really cool—I feel like a superhero.

For warm water, I wear Aqua Lung’s HydroFlex 1mm. It took me forever to find a lightweight but great-fitting long wetsuit. This one is perfect for multiple warm-water dives, or when there may be things in the water that sting (fire coral is not my friend!).

What about fins?

I have a naturally powerful kick as I’m almost 6 feet tall. When diving for fun, I use short travel fins from Cressi (a model they don’t make anymore) that are easy to pack. For more technical dives and shark dives, I use the Agua Lung X-shot in all black. They are thin, sturdy and propel with little effort.

Which dive computer do you use?

I just recently got the Oceanic VTX dive computer with transmitter. It’s amazing! The full-color screen is easy to see, even at 100 feet. For such a great computer, it’s low profile—important when you have small wrists. Just remember to have a bunch of spare batteries as color screens use a lot of power.

Do you have any other must-have items for diving?

When Philippe first strapped a simple back plate (like his grandfather used) on me in the Caribbean, I was a little hesitant. Then I jumped in. The freedom was astounding. I truly felt like a fish. I love controlling my buoyancy with only my breath. I wanted to replicate that feeling on dives when a BC is needed for safety and found the Apeks Ultralight Travel Plate. I add the D18 Single Cylinder Wing when needed. It’s a great rig and I still feel streamlined and free. And my favorite mask is Aqua Lung’s Atlantis. It has old-school Cousteau style!

Do you have a favorite sunblock?

Sunscreen is so important, but can be harmful to us and our water. I always use sunscreen based in non-nano Zinc and Titanium Dioxide. Other chemicals used in most sunscreens have been linked to causing cancer in humans and can be deadly toxic to coral.

For body, I use Goddess Garden Organics Sunny Kids Natural Sunscreen Spray SPF 30. It goes on clear and dries quickly.

For face, I use La Roche-Posay Anthelios Mineral Ultra Light Sunscreen SPF 50. I use the tinted formula. It spreads easily and doesn’t run in eyes. Don’t be scared guys — Philippe likes it, too.

Are there any other beauty products you pack on dive trips?

Saltwater wreaks havoc on my hair and skin, so I bring an organic oil. You can put it straight in your hair and on skin. One of my faves is Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan oil. I slather it everywhere after a dive.

How do you usually fill your surface interval time?

To be honest, Philippe and I usually just sit and talk about all the amazing things we just saw. What I love most about diving is that it is something you share with friends or a loved one.

cold stone

Since Shark Week is ending in a couple days, I thought I’d share the interview because I thought it was interesting, as well as let you know to head to Cold Stone to enjoy their special Shark Week ice cream and cupcake while you can because it looks DELICIOUS!

Great Blue Cupcake: A rich chocolate cup filled with a layer of yellow cake and blue sweet cream ice cream and topped with fluffy blue frosting and a gummy shark.

Shark Week Frenzy: Blue Sweet Cream ice cream with graham cracker pie crust and gummy shark.

I cannot believe that this year is half over! Where is the time going? It is already July, which I am predicting is going to be a REAL HOT ONE. Ugggggh, let’s hope I don’t melt. I am particularly excited for some of the fun things I’ll be doing this month.

For the first time in 23 years I’m going out of state for the 4th of July. Justin and I are flying to Vancouver, Washington for four days to visit some friends and family. Not only am I excited to do something different, but it will be nice to visit some cooler temperatures. The big, huge, fireworks that are illegal in California, are LEGAL in Washington, so I already know it will be a good time. We are staying right by the Columbia River Gorge and the views are absolutely stunning. I can’t wait.

Let’s see what’s going on this month:

July 21-24 — Unleash your inner fangirl at Comic Con in San Diego. Chat with your favorite binge-worthy TV shows, see exclusive preview screening, and completely geek out.

WATCH OUT — Essie is launching it’s 42 shade Gel Couture collection! (separate post on that to come) date tba.

July 22 — Watch Ellen Page and Evan Rachel Wood take on, well, everything in Into The Forest. Page and Wood play sisters living in a remote forest who discover the world around them is on the brink of apocalypse. Head to the theater for that … cue dramatic music!

Other things in July:

** French jewelry designer Aurelie Bidermann shows off her latest accessory — an 18k gold plated necklace features an assortment of all of her signature iconic charms, including the snake, scarab, and feather.

**Stella McCartney is heating things up with her new swimwear line in stores July…. so cute!

OH, and don’t forget to stop by a 7-Eleven on July 11th to get your free Slurpee!!!

HAPPY JULY! Cheers to a really, really, great month.

Pandora Summer Collection 2016

I first fell in love with Pandora Jewelry when my best friend Heather gave me my first sterling silver bracelet with a butterfly friendship charm four years ago for my birthday. Since then, I’ve received so many charms as gifts, as well as a black leather bracelet to add to the collection. I also have two rings that I adore!

My favorite part about charm bracelets is that they are so extremely personable and meaningful. Some family, close friends, and my boyfriend have surprised me with charms that they’ve picked especially for me which fit my personality. I’ve only bought one charm for myself, and that was the first time I went to New York. I stopped at the Pandora Store in Atlantic Avenue Terminal and purchased the Statue of Liberty dangle charm.

This Summer Pandora released quite a few new items — charms, rings, earrings, and new colored leather bracelets. My personal favorite is the oceanic starfish charm paired with the light blue leather bracelet. The shimmering ocean ring is also lovely, and I am totally obsessed with the strawberry and watermelon charm! I think they did a great job in choosing some fun, Summer themed charms. Maybe I’ll get an addition to one of my bracelets soon.

Check out more options on Pandora’s website… there are SO MANY beautiful pieces to choose from.

Here are my personal Pandora bracelets and charms:

Black Leather Bracelet: Red Hearts, Dangle Dog, Cupcake with Gold Cherry, Wood Oakland A’s

Sterling Silver Bracelet: 21, Dangle Dog Bone, Pandora Purse, Dangle Butterfly, Bow Clip, Rhinestone “DAD”, Dangle Statue of Liberty, Labrador Retriever, Christmas Stocking

SUMMER 2016 COLLECTION……. enjoy!

Healthy Summer Salads

I don’t know about you, but I don’t like to eat heavy meals when it’s 100 degrees outside. I would much rather have a salad and iced tea over a steak and baked potato in the Summer. Eating the same salads can get boring, so I’ve ventured out to search for some healthy salads that look delicious, and I think I’ve found a pretty great mix that I’ll be trying out very soon!

Corn Salad with Peppers and Black Beans

6 cobs of corn                                                   1 jalapeno pepper (optional)

1/2 large red onion, diced                              1 can black beans

2 poblano peppers, chopped                         1 red pepper, chopped

1 anaheim pepper, diced                                1 cup feta cheese

1/2 cucumber, chopped                                  1 teaspoon onion powder

1/4 cup white balsamic vinegar                    1 teaspoon basil

1/4 cup olive oil                                                1 teaspoon oregano

1 tablespoon lemon juice                                1/2 teaspoon pepper

1 teaspoon salt

  1. Cook the corn in a pot full of boiling water. Once it has cooked, remove it from the pot and let it cool. Cut the corn off the cob and place in a large bowl.
  2. Dice the onion and Anaheim pepper and add them to the bowl.
  3. Chop the poblano peppers, red pepper, and cucumber. Add them as well.
  4. Rinse the black beans well and add them. Measure out the feta and put it in the bowl.
  5. In a smaller bowl add the vinegar, olive oil, lemon juice. Mix it up well and pour over the ingredients in the large bowl. Add additional spices (mentioned above).
  6. Mix it well and serve!

Tomato Avocado Cucumber Chick Pea Salad with Feta & Greek Lemon Dressing

  • 21 oz red cherry tomatoestomato-avocado-cucumber-chick-pea-salad3-srgb.
  • 10.5 oz yellow cherry tomatoes
  • 14.5 oz chick peas, drained and rinsed
  • 1 1/2 cucumbers, peeled and sliced
  • 2 avocados, peeled, cored and diced
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 3 oz feta cheese, crumbled
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tsp dijon mustard
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 Tbsp chopped fresh basil
  • 3/4 tsp dried oregano

In a salad bowl toss together tomatoes, chick peas and cucumbers. Add avocado and parsley and gently toss. Add desire amount of dressing and the feta and gently toss to evenly coat. Serve within an hour for best results. For the dressing: In a blender (or mixing bowl with a whisk), blend olive oil, lemon juice, mustard, garlic and salt until mixture is well emulsified. Stir in basil and oregano.

** Some people call me weird for liking Chipotle (even after their outbreak) but call me crazy I cannot get enough of their corn salsa and guacamole. The corn salad recipe above reminds me a lot of Chipotle, minus the meat. So I am really excited to give it a go. Justin and I have some tomato plants in the backyard, and this greek style salad features a lot of small tomatos that we can use. I’ve never ate a salad like that one before, but I do LOVE LOVE avocados, so I’m, sure I’ll like this recipe as well.

Ole Henriksen – Influenster Vox Box Review

If you’re not familiar, Influenster is a website community of over 2 million social savvy shoppers that stay on top of the latest product news and expert tips. They review products, share honest opinions with brands and the community, and test out products for free based on social media influence. I have been partnered with Influenster since January of this year, and I have been lucky enough to have discovered some amazing new products.

I received three products in this campaign with Ole Henriksen, complimentary for me to try. I have always seen Ole Henriksen sold at Sephora, but never tried any of their products out, because honestly, they are a bit pricey. Now, after trying some of the them out, I understand the price tag…. You get what you pay for. Wow I was impressed.

truthhhhOle Henriksen Truth Serum Vitamin C Collagen Booster – 1oz. $48

This is a high potency serum that’s formulated with a proprietary five-source Vitamin C complex to help brighten, boost collagen, and minimize fine lines and wrinkles. It helps to prevent further damage and reduce the signs of aging by defending skin from environmental aggressors and free radical damage. Enriched with green tea extract and sodium hyaluronade, this weightless, fast-absorbing, oil-free formula penetrates deep within the skin, delivering antioxidant protection and essential hydration.

-NO Parabens, Sulfates, or Phthalates

** I’ll put this serum on before bed, focusing under my eyes, and around my forehead and dimple areas. It really is as light weight as it says, not to mention since it’s filled with Vitamin C– it smells incredible, just like you’re squeezing an orange on your face. I love applying this after my cleanser, it seeps into my skin and makes my skin feel revitalized when I wake up in the morning.

sheeerOle Henriksen Sheer Transformation – 1.7oz. $38

This is a oil-free moisturizer with a multi-fruit AHA complex to even the skintone and smooth the skin’s texture. It’s infused with fruit acids to gently exfoliate, refining your skin’s rough, uneven texture, tone and dullness while it promotes cell turnover. Pea extract, sugar, and Vitamin C work together to fade dark spots and even skintone. Antioxidant protection helps defend skin from future damage.

** I use this as a base for my makeup application and it’s a perfect light weight formula that keeps my skin hydrated and preps my skin for a healthy, radiant glow that lasts all day. Since it’s an oil-free formula it doesn’t break my skin out or leave any build up.

Ole Henriksen Power Bright Treatment – 6 treatments $55

Experience the ultimate Ole Glow instantly with this professional-strength, three-step system featuring an unprecedented 25% Vitamin C concentrate. In as little as one use, the skin looks brighter and more radiant, and fine lines and wrinkles appear diminished. Each box contains 3 numbered pods:

  1. Begin with the Truth Sugar Glow Polishing Mask enriched with sugar, honey, and pomegranate seed powder to help polish away dull skin, for a smooth, radiant complexion.
  2. Next, apply the Truth 25% Vitamin C concentrate and let it sit on the skin until dry.
  3. Finally, the Pure Truth Melting Cleanser layers on top of the concentrate to help activate it, and you’ll feel a slight warming sensation letting you know it’s working.

-This luxurious three-in-one cleansing formula nourishes skin with Vitamin C, cherry seed, and rose hip seed oils. Rinse it off using the Power Bright complexion sponge provided.

** I was especially excited to use this three-step system because I’ve never done anything like it before. I have been really good about letting my skin breathe throughout the days, especially when it’s extremely hot outside (like it has been). The best part about applying this was the incredible smell of citrus it put out. MMmm, especially the sugar glow mask… I wanted to eat it! The whole process took about 45 minutes from start to finish (including the drying process in between each step). After I rinsed everything and padded my face dry, it felt more clean and revitalized than it’s ever felt.. seriously, I’m not just saying that.I was sitting on the patio with Justin ans he asked if I had anything on my face because it was so shiny and glowing….That’s when you know it worked, when someone else besides yourself can tell. I would re-purchase the Power Bright treatments in a second. I’m going to have to stop by Sephora to get it soon!

Thank You again to Influesnster and Ole Henriksen for sending these products to me. I am so happy I have now discovered such a fantastic skincare line.

Ipsy Glam Bag – June 2016

FullSizeRender (1)

Ipsy is one of my favorite makeup subscriptions that I subscribe too… (shh, don’t tell Birchbox). I literally love the bags that the products come in. This months theme is “rebel rebel” which features a graffiti print. The material feels as soft as velvet and seems to be pretty good quality. The reason that I enjoy Ipsy so much is because the variety of makeup you receive. I am really excited about two special products — the activated charcoal scrub and the Vasanti Eyeliner. For only $10 a month, you get some high quality products. Usually they are products that I’ve never tried before, so it’s a great opportunity. Plus, it feels like Christmas every month when it comes!

  1. derma e Purifying Daily Detox Scrub  full size: $15.50 — The lightweight heavy lifter. This daily detox scrub lifts away the bad stuff (pollutants) without stripping skin of the good stuff (moisture). How? Activated charcoal gently pulls 100-200x its weight in impurities right off your skin.
  • Potassium-rich Kimarine® Wakame protects skin against environmental pollutants.
  • Bladderwrack, a mineral-rich seaweed, hydrates and nourishes.
  • Apricot Seed Powder exfoliates without irritating.

shadow2. Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Lounge full size: $19 — Shade shifter. This multifaceted shadow switches up its look in different lighting. Duo the intrigue. Duo the fun.

  • Feels like velvet. Glides on softly. Looks like wow.
  • Lasts all day (and all night). Won’t get caught up in your creases.
  • Lounge is a decadent reddish-brown topped with teal-green shimmer.

blush3. Crown Brush 3 Tone Bronzer full size: $19.99 — The best things come in three’s. Bronze, blush and highlight your way to a summer glow that goes the distance. Bonus? Blend together for a fourth fun shade.

  • A bronzer, blush and highlighter—all in one petite palette.
  • Subtle shimmer that’s perfect for day or night.
  • Mix them up or leave them alone. Create as many looks as you like.

4. Julie G Nail Color in Tropical Matte full size: $3.99 — Ipsters get it first. Hands-down the color of the summer, this latest shade from the Julie G collection is a sultry turquoise that dries to a matte finish.

  • Incredibly pigmented color
  • Glides on smoothly

5. Vasanti Kajal Waterline Eyeliner in Intense Black full size $19 — Finally, an eyeliner you don’t have to be afraid of!  Mastering the new tightlining trend is a breeze: just apply Kajal Waterline Eyeliner to your upper and lower waterlines -and ta da! You’ve got bright, youthful, sultry eyes with an easy-glide, mess free application. It’s formulated for the most sensitive of eyes for a comfortable and long-lasting velvety matte finish you can count on.

Overall this was a pretty good bag. I am probably  never going to use the nail polish because I get my nails done professionally. I might use this on my toes in a couple weeks, but we’ll see. I am going to have to experiment with the Urban Decay eyeshadow, because it is a completely different color than what I would ever go for. I am happy about the scrub and also very happy with the eyeliner. I’ve already swatched the eyeliner and it goes on smooth and does not want to come off. A good waterproof black eyeliner is essential. I hope I convinced you to subscribe to Ipsy… I promise it’s way worth the $10 a month, and you’ll love it.

SJP is officially back on TV

Sarah Jessica Parker hasn’t starred in a TV show since Sex and the City, which ended in 2004.

Well, this Fall, she’ll finally be returning after twelve years to HBO in the comedy Divorce. She’ll play Frances, a character who finds out her husband had an affair.

According to the network, the show will follow her as she “begins to reassess her life and her marriage, and finds that making a clean break and a fresh start is harder than she thought.”

Carrie spent six seasons chasing after Big—and she never had the courage to walk away, despite the many times he wronged her. But the first words out of her mouth in the Divorce trailer? “I want a divorce.” Boom. Now that is an I-statement with a heavy message, says Glamour Magazine.

I’ll be sure to set my DVR for this upcoming series.

It will be interesting watching her opposite Carrie Bradshaw, in a much more bold and dark character.

Congrats SJP!

Take a look at the trailer that was just released. OMG!
